The best locomotive ever designed in history! Much prettier than the unfinished streamlining of the Daylight! N&W built these to last forever, and 611 is showing it with that reflective paintwork and smooth streamlining, without shrouding very many parts! The nose itself is hinged like a smokebox door and the top of the boiler has individual removable segments, together with those newfangled roller bearings make her very fast indeed!

This is the same engine that smashed the robot in the Iron Giant movie.

I love the streamlining. If only diesel locomotives had this much style.

Yes that would be nice, but from an operational standpoint streamlining can be a real pain. In a perfect world the two would mix well.

It's possible to make them function well together, but it requires good designers. Just look at high-speed electric locomotives and multiple units.

Sure, their maintenance doesn't really compare to that of diesel locomotives, but they do show it can be done.

Sure it can be done, but drilling out cars with a streamlined locomotive would not be fun.

Looks quite similar to an NYC Hudson 4-6-4 as far as its overall profile.

Roanoke outside the O. Winston Link Museum. The loco was sitting outside for National Train Day which was the next day. Usually they keep it covered.

NS would if they wanted to so would CSX.
But you would think that they would love to put a piece of there history back on the rails. But there is nothing that I can do about it.

They hate steam most of em. Dont know why but they do. I am sorry if I offended by anything I said. But the all cannibalized and killed them selves.

They don't hate steam, it's just not a viable thing to allow steam excursions to be run. I mean, think about it. You're tying up the mainline with a train that they can't really control, and they aren't making a profit off of. Yeah, I can see how they wouldn't like it. And it's not just eastern railroads.
